Kick off the day with an overview of the week and class expectations. Then learn about design principles and elements. In the afternoon, go on a tour of the Fashion District and participate in a group scavenger hunt.
Begin to understand the basics of color psychology and how it’s applied to fashion. Create a color wheel, grayscale and a complementary scale. Develop your own color story based on trend influences. Then spend the afternoon sketching technical flats and 9 heads figures while discovering your signature illustration style.
Work with dress forms and multiple fabric types to master the art of draping. Dive into the history of fashion and the field of trend forecasting. End the day with a visit to The Broad, where students use the museum’s collections to gather inspiration for the week and discover how art can influence fashion.
Get extra hands-on today with introductory classes on sewing and garment construction! Learn sewing basics on a machine, best practices and terminology. Students get lab time to produce their own simple pieces and explore the fundamentals of pattern drafting. A guest speaker also joins today to discuss sustainable, eco-friendly fashion.
Start the day with a company tour at Reformation, a sustainable factory that upcycles textiles to create women’s clothing. Wrap up this first week of Project Fashion with class presentations, where students share their takeaways, showcase their work from the week and receive certificates to celebrate their completion of the program.
This session is designed to build foundational skills and define best practices for those who are interested in entering the world of fashion. Gain a deeper understanding of fashion trends throughout history and how trends form. Discover how to incorporate sustainable, eco-friendly practices into fashion. By the end of the week, students know how to draft a pattern, drape for fit and construct their own designs. From the basic principles of design and color theory to hands-on skills, including sewing, draping, sketching and pattern drafting, each day, students apply what they’ve learned from previous lessons and create takeaways to add to their portfolios.

After orientation in the morning, spend the rest of the day immersed in the ins and outs of the fashion industry. Discover the wide range of career options available, learn about the production lifecycle and understand the elements of brand identity. Collaborate in small groups to develop business profiles for brands.
Be your own boss today! Create your own brand, following the entire concept to consumer process from style boards to customer profiles and market strategies. Understand the elements of creating cohesive collections with in-depth lessons on the principles of design and textiles. Visit the iconic Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and get inspiration from all the incredible works of art.
Refine your sketching skills by practicing fashion illustrations. Work on garment construction with a body measurement exercise and sewing lesson. In the afternoon, head over to Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) for a tour of the college.
Experience firsthand color dyeing techniques on different fabrics. Listen to an expert speak on being a Fashion Colorist. In the afternoon, dive into the world of activewear, learning about the impact of sports clothing on current fashion trends and participating in an outerwear design challenge. Tour the facilities of GUESS Jeans and participate in a Q&A session with a panel of fashion designers, buyers and product developers.
Go on a company tour of Swisstex California to watch the dyeing and finishing of knit fabrics. Wrap up the week with class presentations, where students share their takeaways, showcase their work from the week and receive certificates to celebrate their completion of the program.
Gain insight into all business, technical and creative sides of the fashion industry. With expert guest speakers and a tour of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM), learn about the wide variety of career paths available. Participate in group exercises to grow your collaboration skills and practice creative-problem solving. By the end of the week, students understand how to create and establish a brand, illustrate fashion sketches, design cohesive collections, and analyze trends.
