This year at ComplexCon there was nor Shortage of big names in attendance. ComplexCon otherwise known for its popular marketplace has been know to host some of the best panels covering a variety of different topics.
This year we got to catch the conversation with the Tommy Hilfiger and Lewis Hamilton. The conversation hosted by Andy Hilfiger and rapper Pumba was also on the panel as the voice for hip hop.
The Conversition covered the influence Tommy Hilfiger had on 90’s streetwear and vice versa.
RAPPER PUMBA, FROM NEW YORK, WAS THE FIRST RAPPER TO WEAR THE BRAND AND USED THE NAME TOMMY HILFIGER IN A RAP.
That put both of them on to each other, the brand to Tommy and Tommy to rap music.
Hilfiger is synonymous with street culture in the ’90s. The brand was ahead of its time and used music as its edge.
THE MOST MEMORABLE CAMPAIGN OF THE HILFIGER AND HIP HOP MOVEMENT WAS WITH THE
Tommy Hilfiger was the first brand to use music, fashion a. celebrity marketing The brand was always focused on breaking the rules of the fashion industry Their runway shows were groundbreaking with showcasing live music Tommy went into talking about how a band dropped out of the show the day before and Andy recommended a group to replace them, the group came in a. killed it, Tommy asked who the group was and it was Destinys Child Which led to the launch of that collection ‘True Star’ a. the iconic, Tommy Finger overalls.
THE CONVERSATION WAS VERY INSPIRING AND THE NEW DESIGNS COMING FROM LEWIS HAMILTON X TOMMY ARE THE NEW NEW OF WHAT THE BRAND IS PRODUCING. TOMMY ALSO MENTIONED THAT THEY JUST SIGNED A DEAL WITH ACTRESS/SINGER ZENDAYA AND TO BE LOOKING OUT FOR THAT COMING SOON.
This panel of speakers was a powerhouse of unapologetic women of colour in the film industry.
WITH HEADLINER ISSA RAE, STAR AND DIRECTOR OF HBO HIT SERIES, “INSECURE” THIS PANEL WAS ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED OF THE TWO DAY EVENT. THE PANEL ALSO INCLUDED, LENA WAITHE, KARENA EVANS, NEBRASKA ALEXIS, VARA SHAHIDI AND HOSTED BY ]EMELE HILL.
Sitting in the crowd it was easy to just fall Into the sea of words that these women were dropping.
THE YOUNGEST SPEAKER ON THE PANEL, TARA SHAHID! BLEW THE AUDINECE AWAY WITH HER IHTELLEGSNCS AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE THE WISDON SHE WAS SHARING
They discussed topics such as being a woman in the industry and seeking male recognition. being a mentor/being mentored and having breakthough moments.
